After a tiring 1st day of caving, everybody woke up with aches all over the body. What a way to wake up to a bright Christmas morning. We also had Hooi Lan who drove all the way alone through out the night to join us in the morning thus increasing the team number from 10 to 11. Breakfast was at the corner shop located diagonally from our place and since our base camp is just behind the local wet market, there was a lot of people around making their morning purchases. There was also a lorry selling durians and we decided to get some as a treat in anticipation of us meeting up with the Lo Po Sang team in Gua Baba thus achieving our objective. By the time we got ready, we reached the Baba cave entrance at about 11:00am. Moving in, we noticed that the water level in the cave was slightly higher. There was however no rain for the past 2 weeks according to a local whom I asked earlier. We also met the Keelback which we saw the day before on the right side of the wall just before the first pool as we were moving in. It was certainly exciting when it suddenly felt threaten and decided to jump into the water as start swimming towards me as I was standing on the wooden walkway videographing it. Moving on quickly, we soon reached the first swim area and we all swam across it easily as we used to it by now. As we proceeded towards the second swim area, Weng Sia and Alan who were in front soon met up with the Lo Po Sang team at the section of the passage before the iron grill gate. The time is 12:30 pm. The 100 Plus cans taken in by us were taken out as a treat to celebrate the meeting. Actually, Hymeir has already confirmed the connection earlier but his was done by way of recognizing a landmark which is on the other side of the cave or vice versa. What we have done is to confirm the connection by way of a physical meet up of two teams coming from the opposite direction.
The
objective of the Lo Po Sang team was to reach the Baba exit and thus the
whole group decided to move out together towards the Baba exit.
Thus ended the second day of caving activities at 2:00pm for both
teams. The rest of the day
was spent cleaning and drying the equipment and catching up on our sleep. Reported by Yee Chun Wah
